Cavity wall insulation can cut your energy bills
It’s common sense really. When you’re cold, putting on a jumper instantly warms you up. The same goes for your home. Cavity wall insulation grants can instantly create a warmer environment by minimising the amount of heat escaping through your walls.
Cavity wall insulation grants can cut your energy bills
In fact, more heat is lost through your cavity walls than any other part of your home. It’s fustrating to know that as much as 40% of the heat you are paying for is escaping through your walls. Wouldn’t it be good to get some of that back? Cavity wall insulation grants have many benefits, not least a dramatic reduction in your energy bills.
Insulating your walls is quick and mess-free.
A professional insulation installer will be able to carry out cavity wall insulation in around 2-3 hours, with the minimum of disruption. The installer will drill a series of small holes (around 25mm) in order to reach the gap between your two outer walls. They will then blow or inject insulation material (this can vary but typically it is made up of tiny pockets of air that prevent cooler air passing through) into the gap between your two outer walls.
Not all houses can receive cavity wall insulation.
It may sound obvious, but there needs to be a cavity, or gap, between the two layers of brick which make up your outer wall. Typically, homes built between 1930 and 1995 will have be constructed with two outer layers and are therefore suitable to receive cavity wall insulation. If it was built before this you are more likely to have solid walls, which are not suitable for this type of insulation.
As a (very) general rule if your outside wall measures 30cm thick, then chances are you have a cavity wall. Anything less than this and its most than likely to be solid.
